Q. What is the reasoning behind alternating worming medications in my horse, goat, sheep or llamas?
It is recommended that you should alternate worming medications every 2 months due to parasite immunity. For instance, Panacur® contains the active ingredient Fenbendazole and should be rotated with another worming medication with a different active ingredient such as Quest® which contains Moxidectin.
Q. How do I know its time for my horses teeth to be floated?
You can tell when it is time to float your horse's teeth when there is resistance to turning with the bit, mouthy with the bit, and dropping grain from the mouth, which is a sign of severe problems.
Q. How often should herd animals be rotated in pasture?
It should be rotated every 3 weeks in the spring with worming to prevent pasture contamination. If pasture is over-grazed, grass production suffers so that you have to buy more feed.
